November 2024 Newsletter: Get Ready for the November Program!

November is around the corner!

We’re gonna say this once, and we’re gonna say it a million times: Setting out to write a novel in a month is crazy. You’re planning to sit down and write something – anything –  and that in and of itself is a deliberate act worthy of celebration. Setting the intention, setting aside the time, and actually sitting down to write something in a world that demands your attention in every other direction is a massive commitment.

It’s been on the horizon for a while, but the day has finally come. Time to buckle down and write like you’re on the lam. Make sure to join us on Discord for the Writing Til Dawn Virtual Marathon from midnight until 8:00 a.m. on November 1! Sit down and write something. Write anything. Let your imagination run wild. November is not a time for moderation in your creativity.

If you can’t make it virtually, don’t worry! Our full calendar of events is available on our google calendar and website. We have in-person write-ins on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday each week (including on Thanksgiving!). In-Person events usually have a virtual component on our Discord, so if you can’t make it live, you can still write with us!

Questions? Let us know! FAQ’s can be found on our website as well as in the #faq channel in our Discord!

Exploring the Forest

Our theme this year is Exploring the Forest. Your novel is like a forest: full of wonderful discoveries and unknown dangers. It’s growing and changing like the flora and fauna of the wilderness. We’ll be with you every step of the way on this journey through the forest!

Stickers

Our participant stickers this year are designed by our co-organizer, Natalie Wallington, depicting a redwood forest. These impressive sequoias don’t just speak to the mighty accomplishments we will look back at the end of November – the trees standing together also speak to our nature as a community. Together, we write more than we could alone!

Library Partnership

We’re excited to announce that the West Wyandotte branch of the Kansas City, Kansas library is hosting their own noveling event as well: Novel-vember! Katy Lanzrath, who is running the program, was a long-time participant in NaNoWriMo and has partnered with KanMoWriCo before. We’re excited to work with the library again and encourage all KanMoWriCo writers to join our library partner for these events and will include them in our calendar! You can sign up for these events online at the library website.

Inspiration Corner

There are many ways to start your journey into the forest. If you want to plunge ahead into the unknown, we are here for you! But if you want to plan an expedition, there are many great ways to outline your novel.

Here are some of our favorite plotting and outlining structures, in case you’re still searching for something:

If you’re a pantser more than a planner, we recommend the Snowflake Method to get the broad strokes of your story without having to dive into the details!
