Events
We have write-ins on Sunday at Rochester Coffee and Brewing, Tuesdays at Front Range, and Wednesdays on Discord! Can’t make any of those times? There’s always someone writing on our Discord!
Want to see a write-in in your area? Start one! We run on volunteer power, so if you have an idea for a time and place that you can lead, reach out to us at officialkanmowrico@gmail.com.
Nonprofit Status
We’re entering the final stage of getting our official non-profit status! We’re submitting paperwork now and engaging Board members to serve in a big-picture capacity while our co-organizers keep working to keep the day-to-day KanMoWriCo running.
Check out our first official Annual Report! We did a lot last year, and it’s understandable if you missed some of it. As paperwork nerds, your co-organizers are always delighted to make more fun graphics.
New This Year: Short Story Intensive
Join our once-a-month mini-workshop for short stories! This drop-in, drop-out group meets on Discord. You’ll join a work session themed around a specific journal for submission, then trade work to constructively critique. When you’re done, submit it for publication! Check out the #short-story-intensive channel on Discord for the calls that we’re working on right now, but as always, if you have a short story you’re working on for any reason, you’re welcome to come hang out!
Critique Partners
Critique is essential to improvement, but we know finding writers to critique your work is scary and difficult. That’s why we have a #critique-corner in our discord! It’s always worth asking around to see if someone else is writing and has the time to look at it, but remember, it’s always polite (and highly encouraged) to look through and see if you’re able to read someone else’s work as well. We’ll be running a critique partner meet-up in May, so be on the lookout for dates!
Spring Sprint
Mark your calendar for the Spring Sprint happening again this April! If you weren’t around last year for the first Spring Sprint, this is an event designed to get you writing in a way you maybe haven’t before! A lot of our writers are practiced with writing novels but not as much with short stories, novellas, microfics, and more, so we decided to make a fun challenge out of it! Keep an eye out for more information (bingo cards, new challenges, themed write-ins, oh my!) coming soon.
Inspiration Strikes!
The promise of spring is on the horizon and with that comes growth, opportunity, and hope! While the local weather might be bringing you down, or making you feel like you’re stuck in a loop that leaves you feeling like it’s the 745th day of January, the sun is getting warmer, the days are getting longer and it’ll be March before we know it.
So what about your characters? How do they shake off the winter doldrums? Are they throwing open their windows and letting the warmer air in? Or are they dreading the return of warmth, wishing only to curl up with a good book and cozy blanket? Do your characters revile or embrace the increase in muddy conditions? How do the temperature snaps affect what they’re trying to achieve in your scene? Write a scene with your characters where they’re in an adverse weather condition, inspired by our current weather rollercoaster!
As always, happy writing!
Your co-organizers,
Joanie, Bee, and Ali
