Board of Directors

What does a Board of Directors Do?

Our Board of Directors provides guidance and helps steer the co-organizers in their quest to make KanMoWriCo the best it can be! Practically, they’re helping us refine things like mission statements, action plans, keep our finances and taxes in order, and fundraising on behalf of the organization!

Meet Our Board

Bee Hawthorne, Board Member

Bee (she/they) writes short stories and novellas across all genres, but has a soft spot for mysteries. Their short stories have been published in Quotidian Bagatelle and other places. Their other interests include watching terrible tv, crafting the perfect bad joke, and bothering their cats Copy and Paste.

Ali Petterson, Board Member

Ali (she/her) has lived in Kansas City for 30 years, and it is one of her favorite places on Earth. She lives with her two devoted dogs, two clingy cats, and her adoring husband. She’s been writing fantasy and sci-fi stories since she learned how to hold a pencil.

Matt Prince, Board Secretary

Matt (he/him) is a Missouri native, but KC transplant, having moved back from Los Angeles in 2020. He and his amazing wife raise their three fur-children north of the river. After years of tabletop gaming he turned his love of storytelling into writing, dwelling primarily in horror and dark fantasy narratives.

Erin Rand, Board President

After Erin (she/her) moved to the Kansas City area in 2018, her first mission was to find a group of fellow writers. With KanMoWriCo’s encouragement, she’s written several historical fantasy novels that currently live on her hard drive — but may see the world soon!

Joanie Saltzman, Board Treasurer

Joanie (ze/hir) has lived in Kansas City for 24 years and is passionate about building community. Ze led the Kansas City region of National Novel Writing Month for 6 years before it became KanMoWriCo. Ze is working to get hir manuscript ready for querying. Ze writes queer urban fantasy.

Important (but boring) non-profit paperwork

We have a lot of paperwork that is freely available, including some meeting minutes, annual reports, and our yearly tax returns. Please peruse at your leisure (once it exists)!
