Happy Pride!

KanMoWriCo is queer-led all year round, so we want to take a moment to celebrate that! We’re not an explicitly or exclusively LGBTQ+ writing group, but many of our leaders and members are. We’re so proud of the inclusive space that we’ve built and thank everyone who helps us make it that way, whether that’s by showing up as yourself or by welcoming others.This Pride Month, we’re reaffirming that everyone is welcome here, and we’re sending extra love to our trans and gender non-conforming siblings. You’re safe with us however you are. Happy pride!

It’s Hot FYN Summer!

That’s right, it’s time to Finish Your Novel! We know you’ve got a draft (or two, or…more) lying around from Novembers past. It’s time to dust them off and get them done. Maybe you’ve stopped in the middle and you need to get to the end, or you have it written from start to finish but need to get it revised. Either way, set a goal and join us and just finish it. You have until Labor Day, 9/7. 

Are we running marathons for Hot FYN Summer? No, we’re finishing our novels. Do we have prompts for you? No, you know what your novel needs. Do we have additional programming? No, but our weekly write-ins are still going and the Discord is available for 24/7 support. Drop in on any of these events and you’re sure to find someone else finishing their novel. Short Story Workshop Interest Check

Our evil plan to get more people writing short stories has worked! Which means that we’re looking into running a short story specific workshop sometime later this summer. Fill out the interest check here. The workshop will have a slightly different format than our previous ones, where the authors will read their stories live and then we’ll offer feedback—so no pre-reading required!

Critique Partner Match Up

As Hot FYN Summer starts to wrap up, many of you will be looking to get fresh eyes on your work. That’s why we are pleased to announce our first Critique Partner Match Up! We know many of you are always looking for critique partners, so this speed dating style event will help you find writers whose work you’d be excited to swap and come out with a critique partner who will help take you to the next stage of your draft! We’ll send more details as the date gets closer, so keep an eye out for this event coming up in mid-August.

KanMoWriCo…Inc!

We’re excited to announce that after months of planning and preparing documents, KanMoWriCo is an incorporated 501c3 nonprofit! What does this mean? We still have the same mission, the same community focus, and the same events, but as of May 3rd, your donations are tax deductible! As long as we have your full name and email address with your donation, we’ll send you a report at the end of the year for your taxes. Now could be a great time to make a tax deductible donation to KanMoWriCo, or even set up a monthly donation!

Non-profit status will allow us to benefit from tax-exempt purchases as well, and open up future grant opportunities. We couldn’t have taken this step without the support of our donors, so thank you to everyone who has contributed!
